Children's Trust Fund

There are over 83 million chronically undernourished children under the age of five in the world; the majority of these children live in South Asia. The top five countries with the most undernourished children are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, and Nepal. In these countries, over 40 percent of the under-five population suffers from undernourishment. In Bangladesh, about 7.2 million children suffer from malnutrition. Most of these children are homeless and are forced to work instead of attend school in order to provide for their families.
Children’s Trust Fund is a nonprofit organization founded and led by high school students. CTFund is dedicated to helping malnourished and homeless children around the world. These children suffer from malnutrition, starvation, pneumonia, tetanus and other life-threatening diseases. CTFund is working to provide these families with proper education, medical treatment, clean water, and sanitation.
ABOUT US
How do we hope to accomplish this? Through donations from our generous sponsors and fundraisers held through schools around the world, CTFund is raising funds to provide families in underdeveloped countries around the world, especially in countries such as Bangladesh, with rickshaws and farm animals so that they can work to rebuild their lives and provide for their children. CTFund is currently focusing on aiding flood victims in Bangladesh who have lost their homes in our project entitled Fight the Floods. Below is a short excerpt written by Celia Islam in a letter to First Lady Michelle Obama. The letter describes Celia’s experience visiting Bangladesh and witnessing the struggles that thousands of Bangladeshi children live through every day. First Lady Obama wrote back to Celia a few days later, giving her advice on how to interest her peers in CTFund.
“My parents were born and raised in Bangladesh. Although I have never lived there, I visited Bangladesh a few years ago with my family. This trip completely opened my eyes to the severity of childhood malnutrition. When I entered my grandmother’s village in Sirajganj, I noticed about a dozen children lying on the muddy street corners. Lifeless expressions covered their faces and mosquitoes buzzed around them. As I continued through the village, a thin boy approached me, told me he had not eaten in days, and asked me for a few cents. I was immediately overcome with sadness. Why is it that we have an endless supply of clean water and clothes while these children go to bed hungry every night?” – Celia Islam
